ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Astronomical nutation

Do you know what a spinning top is? When you spin it, it wobbles a little bit, right? That's kind of like what happens to the Earth when it spins.

The Earth spins, but it doesn't spin perfectly straight up and down. It wobbles a little bit as it spins around the sun. This wobbling is called "astronomical nutation."

Think of a hula hoop spinning around your waist. If you move your body a tiny bit from side to side as the hoop spins, it creates a wobble in the hoop. That's kind of like what the Earth is doing as it spins around the sun.

This wobbling can affect things like the position of the stars in the sky, and the timing of seasons on Earth. But don't worry, it's all part of the natural movements of the Earth and the universe!
