Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a calendar? It's a way to keep track of the days, months, and years. Now, imagine if you had a special calendar that was made a long, long time ago. This special calendar is called an attic calendar!
An attic calendar is a type of calendar that was used by people in ancient times to keep track of the seasons and holidays. It was called an attic calendar because it was first used in the ancient Greek city-state of Athens, which is located in a region called Attica.
The attic calendar has twelve months, just like the calendar we use today. Each month has a different number of days, which was determined by the phases of the moon. This means that some months had 29 days, while others had 30 or even 31 days!
The attic calendar also had special days that were set aside for celebrations and festivals. For example, one of the most important festivals was called the Panathenaia, which was held every four years in honor of the goddess Athena. During this festival, there were parades, games, and competitions. People from all over Greece would come to Athens to celebrate!
Nowadays, we use a different calendar called the Gregorian calendar, which was developed in the 16th century. But the attic calendar is still important because it has influenced the way we celebrate holidays and some of the customs that we practice today.
