Australian Capital Territory

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is a special place in Australia where the city of Canberra, which is the capital of the country, is located. It's like a small state that has its government, laws, and rules, but it's not a state like the other places in Australia.

The ACT was created in 1911 when the Australian government decided to build a brand new city in the middle of the country to be the capital of Australia. They chose a spot between two big cities, Sydney and Melbourne, and called it Canberra. Canberra is located in the ACT. The ACT was created just to provide a piece of land where the capital city could be built.

Today, the ACT has around 420,000 people living there, and it's one of the smallest places in Australia. The government of the ACT takes care of everything that happens there, like building roads, schools, and hospitals, and making laws that keep everyone safe.

Even though the ACT is a small place, it's really important because it's where the Australian government and Parliament House are located. This means that the leaders of Australia work there every day, making important decisions that affect the whole country.

So, in summary, the Australian Capital Territory is a small place in Australia where the city of Canberra is located. It's like a little state with its own government, laws, and rules. It's important because it's where the leaders of Australia work to make important decisions for the whole country.
