Australian place names changed from German names

So there was a time when some places in Australia had names that started with German words like 'berg', 'bach', and 'burg'. But during World War I, which happened a long time ago, Australia and Germany were fighting against each other.

Many people in Australia who didn't like Germany anymore thought it wasn't a good idea to have German names for special places in Australia because it might make people extra upset. So they changed the names of those places to English words instead.

This means that instead of saying 'Hahndorf', we say 'Handorf' and instead of saying 'Klemzig', we say 'Clemzig'. Even though the names may seem different, they still refer to the same places with the same histories and stories.
