Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disability that affects how people communicate and understand the world around them. It affects each person differently in terms of how it affects them and what support they may need. In the media, you may sometimes see autism portrayed in stories, movies, and TV shows. These stories help to show what it’s like to be on the autism spectrum, but it’s important to remember that everyone is different and everyone’s experiences with autism will be different. For example, some people with autism might not be able to talk or understand other people’s emotions very well. Other people might be really good at problem-solving, or have special interests or areas of expertise. When we see someone with autism on the screen, it gives us an opportunity to try to understand their perspective, and to accept and appreciate their differences.
