Automatic differentiation is like having a very smart calculator that can figure out how to do math much faster than a regular calculator. It doesn't just give you the answer to a math problem, but it can figure out how to do the math problem even if it's very complicated. It can also figure out how different parts of the math problem are connected, so it can use that information to help you solve it faster.
