ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Autosome

An autosome is a special type of chromosome found in our bodies. Chromosomes are like instruction manuals for our bodies - they give our cells information about how to grow and work properly. Autosomes are different from other types of chromosomes because they are not involved in determining a person's sex. Instead, they contain important information about traits like eye color, hair color, and height. Autosomes come in pairs - we get one copy from our mom and one from our dad. This is why we sometimes look like our parents or siblings - we have similar information on our autosomes!
