Axis of evil (cosmology)

The axis of evil is a term used to describe an orientation in space that makes it easier for astronomers to find the mysterious thing known as dark energy. Dark energy is a type of energy that cannot be seen but is believed to be a mysterious force that makes up most of the Universe. By measuring the amount of dark energy in different directions, we can work out how much of it is out there and how it might affect the way the Universe grows and changes. The direction in which the dark energy is strongest becomes the axis of evil and helps astronomers study this mysterious phenomenon.
