ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aztec society

So let's talk about Aztec society, like you're a 5-year-old!

So there was this group of people who lived in a place called Mexico a long, long time ago. They were called the Aztecs. They had their own way of doing things, kind of like how we have our own rules at school or at home.

The Aztecs had a very important leader who was kind of like the boss of the whole group. He was called the emperor. Just like our parents, the emperor made rules that everyone had to follow.

The Aztecs were very good at growing plants and they had lots of different kinds of food. They liked to eat corn, beans, and squash a lot. They also really liked chocolate!

But the Aztecs also liked to fight with people sometimes, and they would take prisoners from other groups that they won battles against. The prisoners would sometimes be used as sacrifices to their gods. That means they would do things like cut out their hearts to give to the gods. It sounds scary, but it was a very important part of their religion.

The Aztecs also had a special language that they spoke called Nahuatl. It was written in symbols that looked kind of like pictures.

Overall, the Aztecs had a different way of living compared to us now, but they had their own important customs and beliefs that they wanted to keep alive.
