ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bézier surface

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with playdough or clay? Imagine that we want to make a smooth shape using playdough, like a ball or a...dinosaur maybe?

Now, let's say we have some special tools that allows us to shape the playdough in a very precise way. These tools are called "Bézier curves". A Bézier curve is like a line that can curve and twist however we need it to, kind of like a snake.

So, we could use these Bézier curves to make lines on our playdough, and then connect those lines to make a shape. The cool thing is, we can adjust the Bézier curve lines to change the shape of our playdough.

Now, imagine that instead of making a flat shape, we want to make a 3-dimensional shape, like a ball or a...dragonfly maybe? This is where Bézier surfaces come in.

A Bézier surface is like a series of Bézier curves all connecting together to make a 3D shape. We can still adjust these curves to change the shape of the surface, but now we have even more options because we can move the curves not only up or down, but also side-to-side and back-and-forth.

So, by using Bézier surfaces, we can make very complex and smooth 3D shapes, like a car or a...rocketship maybe? Isn't that pretty cool?
