ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Baal-zephon

Well kiddo, Baal-Zephon was a very important place in ancient times where people used to worship a god named Baal. It was believed that Baal was the god of thunder, storms and fertility. Baal-Zephon was located near the Red Sea and it played a big role in a story from the Bible.

You see, there was a group of people called the Israelites who were living in Egypt a very long time ago. They were slaves and they prayed to God to help them escape. So God sent a man named Moses to lead them out of Egypt.

Moses and the Israelites had to cross the Red Sea to get away from the Egyptians who were chasing them. But they were stuck because they couldn't cross the sea. That's when God performed a miracle and the sea split in two so that the Israelites could walk through on dry land.

But just as they were crossing the sea, the Egyptians changed their minds and decided to chase them again. So God made the waters close in on the Egyptians and they all drowned.

Now here's where Baal-Zephon comes in. It is believed that this place was located on the opposite side of the Red Sea where the Israelites were crossing. So when the Egyptians saw that the Israelites were trapped with the sea in front of them and Baal-Zephon behind them, they thought they had them cornered. But God proved them wrong and saved the Israelites.

So that's basically what Baal-Zephon is all about, kiddo. It's an important place in ancient history that played a role in a story from the Bible where God helped the Israelites escape from slavery in Egypt.
