ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Baldwin effect

The Baldwin Effect is a type of evolution called "environmental learning." It means that animals can change their behavior in ways that give them an advantage in their environment. For example, if a bird learns to eat new food, it is more likely to survive and pass that behavior on to its offspring. Over time, the behavior gets passed down, making the species better adapted to their environment. This can happen without any changes to the physical traits of the species.
