Baltic maritime trade (c. 1400–1800)

Baltic maritime trade was when people traded things like goods and products on boats that went on the Baltic Sea, which is a big body of water in Europe. This kind of trade happened from around 1400 to 1800, and it was really important for a lot of countries like Sweden, Denmark, Poland, and Russia.

The Baltic Sea could be a tricky place to travel on because it was really cold and stormy, especially in the winter. So, people needed to have really strong and sturdy boats to make sure they didn't sink. They also needed to know how to navigate the sea, which means figuring out where they were and where they needed to go.

Once they got to a port or dock, they would sell the things they brought with them, like fish, timber, and grain. Other people would bring things like cloth, spices, and metal items for trade too. They would buy and sell things with the money they had or trade items for other things they needed.

This kind of trade helped countries grow and become more powerful because they had more resources and could trade with other countries. It was also really important for people who lived in the Baltic region because they depended on the trade for things they needed to survive, like food and clothes. Even though it was a long time ago, the Baltic maritime trade helped shape the world we live in today.
