Ok, kiddo, you know how when you go get your hair cut, there's this tall pole outside the barber shop with a red, white and blue stripe around it that spins around? That's called a barber's pole!
Now, the pole has three different colors on it - red, white and blue. The red color is there to remind people of blood. Yikes, I know that sounds scary but long, long ago barbers used to do more than just cut hair. They used to do things like pull teeth and do surgeries too!
The white color on the pole reminds people of bandages they would use to cover up the wounds after surgeries, teeth pulling or blood-letting.
The blue color on the pole is for the sky, which represents the ultimate goal of the people who went to see the barber - good health.
So, the pole has all three of these colors on it to remind people of the different things a barber used to do, and to show that the people who went to see them wanted to leave feeling better than they did when they arrived.
And that, my dear is the story behind the barber's pole!
