Barringer Medal

Okay, so the Barringer Medal is a special award that is given to people who make really important discoveries about meteorites. Meteorites are rocks that come from space and land on Earth. They can tell us a lot of cool things about space and our history as a planet.

The Barringer Medal is named after a man named Daniel Barringer who was one of the first people to realize that a big hole in the ground in Arizona was actually caused by a meteorite crashing into the Earth. He was really interested in meteorites and spent a lot of his life studying them.

Now, every year a group of really smart scientists who also love studying meteorites gets together and decides who should get the Barringer Medal. They look at all the people who have made important discoveries about meteorites and they choose the person who did the most important and exciting work.

Just like in the Olympics, the person who wins the Barringer Medal gets a gold medal of their own. They also get to give a special talk to all the other scientists about their discoveries. It's a really big honor to win the medal because it means that you did something really amazing in the world of meteorites.
