Bates method

The Bates method is a way to help people see better without glasses or contact lenses. It was created by a man named Dr. William Bates.

Dr. Bates believed that the main cause of poor vision was what he called "eye strain." Eye strain happens when the muscles in your eyes get tired from looking at things up close for too long, like reading or looking at a computer screen. This can make your eyes feel tired and blurry.

The Bates method involves doing exercises to help your eyes relax and move naturally. Here are some examples of Bates method exercises:

1. Palming: This exercise involves cupping your hands over your closed eyes and relaxing for a few minutes. It helps to reduce eye strain and promote relaxation.

2. Sunning: This involves closing your eyes and facing the sun (with your eyes closed!). You can do this for a few minutes at a time to help your eyes get used to natural light.

3. Shifting focus: This exercise involves looking from a close object to a distant object, and back again. This helps your eyes to move more naturally and reduces eye strain.

Dr. Bates also believed that good vision depended on good overall health. He recommended getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and getting regular exercise.

The Bates method is not a magic cure for poor vision, and it doesn't work for everyone. It's always a good idea to talk to your eye doctor about any vision problems you're having. But some people do find that the Bates method exercises help them to see more clearly without glasses or contact lenses.
