ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Battle of Baghuz Fawqani

Okay kiddo, I'll explain it to you in a way you can understand. Have you ever played a game of hide and seek with your friends? Well, imagine a very big game of hide and seek, but instead of friends, there are two groups of grown-ups playing.

One group is called ISIS and the other group is called the Syrian Democratic Forces (or SDF for short). They were playing a very serious game because they wanted to control a place called Baghuz Fawqani. Baghuz Fawqani is a town in Syria where ISIS was hiding and doing bad things.

Both groups sent their players, or soldiers, to the town to try to take control of it. The SDF players were trying to win by using their weapons to fight ISIS players and make them leave. And the ISIS players were trying to win by not getting caught and by hiding in tunnels under the town.

It was a long and hard game, and many people got hurt. The SDF players had help from bigger, stronger countries like the United States, while the ISIS players did not have as much help.

Eventually, after many months of playing, the SDF players won the game. They took control of Baghuz Fawqani and made the ISIS players leave. This was a very good thing because it helped make the world a safer place for everyone.
