Beach Pneumatic Transit

Imagine you are playing with your toy train set. You have a little train and a track for it to travel on. Now, imagine that instead of playing with just a small train, we built a really big train that we could ride on. This is what we call a train that people can use to travel from one place to another.

Now, imagine that we want to build a train that goes through a big city like New York City. There are lots of people who need to get around, but there's a problem: there are so many buildings in the city that there's no room to build any tracks for the train.

The solution to this problem is to build the train underground, so it doesn't get in the way of anything else. This is what we call a subway.

But building a subway is really hard work. It takes a lot of time and money to dig tunnels underground and build stations for people to get on and off the train.

This is where the Beach Pneumatic Transit comes in. It was a really clever idea that was thought up more than 100 years ago.

The Beach Pneumatic Transit was a type of subway that was built using air pressure. Imagine blowing up a balloon until it's really big and tight. The air inside the balloon is pushing against the sides of the balloon, making it stay in a certain shape.

Now imagine that we build a tube underground, like a really long balloon. We put a train inside the tube and we suck all the air out of the tube. This creates a vacuum, which means there's no air inside the tube at all.

Then we use a big fan to blow air into the tube. The air rushes in and pushes the train forward. It's like blowing up the balloon and then letting it go. The air pressure pushes the train along the track.

This is how the Beach Pneumatic Transit worked. It wasn't as fast as modern subways, but it was a lot cheaper and easier to build. It was only used for a short time, but it was an important step in the development of subways as we know them today.
