ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bellman equation

The Bellman Equation is a way of working out how to get the best result when making decisions. It helps us figure out which decision we should make when faced with a complex problem.

Imagine that you are in a maze and you want to get to the end. You can go left or right at each turn. The Bellman Equation helps us figure out which way to go at each turn so that we get to the end of the maze as quickly as possible.

At each turn, we figure out the best way to go by looking at the choices we have and how quickly each choice will get us to the end of the maze. We do this by adding up all the possible choices we have and calculating which choice will get us to the end of the maze the quickest.
