ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Beneficial acclimation hypothesis

The beneficial acclimation hypothesis says that if creatures are in an environment for a long time, they can adapt so that they can do better in that environment. For example, if a animal lives in a cold place for a long time it might be able to grow fur or feathers so that it can stay warm. Or, if an animal that lives in a hot place it might be able to grow darker skin so that it doesn't get sunburned. This adaptation of living creatures allows them to survive in an environment they otherwise couldn't survive.
