ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bengoshi

So, a bengoshi is like a really smart person who knows all about the laws in Japan. They help people who are in trouble with the law, or if they need someone to represent them in court. It's kind of like having a very smart friend who knows everything about rules and how to follow them. The bengoshi also has to go to school for a really long time to learn all about the laws, just like how you go to school to learn math and reading. They wear fancy black robes when they go to court so they look really important.
