Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH for short, is when a man's "pee-pee gland" (prostate) gets bigger than it should be. This can happen when a man gets older, because his body makes too many cells in the prostate.
The prostate is like a little donut that sits below a man's bladder, and when it gets bigger, it can squeeze the tube that the pee-pee comes out of (urethra). This can make it hard for a man to pee or might cause him to have to go pee more often or urgently.
While BPH is not cancer, it can still cause problems. But don't worry, there are treatments your doctor can give you to help make it easier to go pee.
