ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Benkei

Benkei is a character from Japanese history and folklore who was a very strong warrior. He was so strong that even as a child he could lift very heavy things that other children couldn't.

As he grew up, Benkei decided to become a monk and started living in a temple. But he didn't stop being strong, and actually became even stronger!

One day, Benkei saw another monk who was trying to cross a bridge but was being bullied by some other people. Benkei stepped in and used his strength to protect the monk, and from that day on he decided to protect other people as well.

Benkei became very famous for his strength and his courage. He even became a loyal follower to one of Japan's most famous warriors, Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Together, they fought many battles and won many victories.

Even though Benkei was known for his tough exterior, he had a kind heart and was very loyal to his friends. He is still remembered today as a symbol of strength, courage, and loyalty in Japanese culture.
