Bhikkhunī

A "bhikkhuni" is a woman who chooses to live a simple and spiritual life as a Buddhist or "sangha". They might live in a special community called a "sangha" or they might live on their own. They might wear special clothes and follow certain rules that help them focus on their spiritual practice. Just like male monks or "bhikkhus", bhikkhunis try to be kind and compassionate to everyone around them, and they try to train their minds to be peaceful and happy. They might spend time studying Buddhist teachings or meditating, and they might also help others by teaching, giving advice, or performing acts of kindness. Bhikkhunis are important because they show that women can also be spiritual leaders and role models in their communities.
