ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biodegradable bag

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard about a bag that can become food for the earth? That's what a biodegradable bag is! It's a special kind of bag that can break down into natural parts like carbon dioxide, water, and other non-toxic compounds with the help of living things like bacteria, sunlight, and air.

So imagine you have a banana peel after eating your banana, right? If you leave it on the ground, eventually it will disappear as it breaks down and becomes part of the ground. Biodegradable bags work similarly, except they break down faster and don't create pollution because they don't contain harmful chemicals.

There are also some biodegradable bags made from materials like corn starch or potatoes that can be eaten by animals or even you! (Though I wouldn't recommend it, they don't taste very yummy.)

So next time you go grocery shopping with Mom or Dad, you might see biodegradable bags being offered instead of the usual plastic ones. And if you do, you can feel good knowing that you're helping to take care of our planet by using something that won't harm the environment.
