ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biological evolution

Biological evolution is the process that shapes all life on Earth. It is the way that living things change over time. Every living thing has traits that help it survive better in its environment. Through a process called natural selection, the things that help an organism survive are passed down from parents to their offspring. This means that when a new generation of living things is born, they tend to have the traits that make them better suited to their environment. Over time, living things develop new traits that help them survive and reproduce, which allows them to evolve. This process eventually leads to new species that are different from their ancestors.
