Black Rod

Black Rod is a person who has an important job in a special group called the British House of Lords. Black Rod's main job is to help the Queen (who is the boss of a lot of important people in Britain) talk to the House of Lords. When Black Rod goes to the House of Lords, they have a very special stick called a "black rod" that they use to knock on the door and ask the Lords to come talk to the Queen. When the House of Lords hear the knock, they know that it is time to go talk to the Queen. So Black Rod is kind of like the Queen's messenger, and the black rod is like a special tool that they use to get the Lords to come talk to the Queen.
