ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Black and White in Color

Ok kiddo, you know how some things are colorful and have lots of different colors, like a rainbow or your favorite toy? Well, there are some things that only have two colors - black and white.

Black and white are like opposites. Black is the darkest color and doesn't let any light pass through, while white is the lightest color and allows all light to pass through.

But here's the funny thing - even though we call things that are only black and white "black and white," they're not really those colors at all! They're actually shades of gray.

You see, when you mix black and white together, you get a gray tone. The more black you add, the darker the gray gets. And the more white you add, the lighter the gray becomes.

So even though black and white might seem like different colors, they're really just different shades of gray. Cool, huh?
