Black sermonic tradition

Okay, so imagine you go to church every Sunday and the preacher stands up and talks to everyone about the Bible and how to be a good person. Now, some churches have a special way of preaching that comes from a really important part of African American history called the black sermonic tradition.

Basically, this tradition started back when black people were enslaved and couldn't practice their own religion. They had to go to church with their owners and listen to the white preachers. But the black people couldn't always relate to what the white preachers were saying, so they started their own way of preaching that was more emotional and talked about their own experiences.

The black sermonic tradition is all about connecting with people on a deep emotional level. The preacher uses really powerful language and tells stories that everyone can relate to. They might talk about how hard life is for black people or how much they've struggled in their own lives. They might sing or have the congregation sing a song that inspires them.

This way of preaching is really important because it lets black people express their feelings and connect with each other. It also reminds everyone that there is hope and that they can get through anything together. So even though it might sound different than what you hear in other churches, it's a really important way of speaking to people's hearts and souls.
