ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Blackboard bold

Hey kiddo, have you ever seen numbers or letters that are written in a really thick and bold way that makes them stand out from the other words on a piece of paper or a computer screen? That's called "blackboard bold!"

It gets its name from the way it looks like it was written on a blackboard with a big piece of chalk. It's used mostly in math and science to make special symbols that are different from the regular numbers and letters we use.

Blackboard bold symbols are usually used to represent things like sets of numbers or special operations that we use in math. They can look really cool and fancy, but they're not necessarily any more important than other symbols in math and science.

So next time you see a big, bold "R" that represents the set of real numbers, or a "C" that stands for the set of complex numbers, you'll know that it's written in blackboard bold!
