Blanket bog

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a really squishy, wet patch of ground that's covered in plants like moss and heather? That's what we call a blanket bog!

Blanket bogs are like big sponges that soak up lots and lots of water. They can be found in places where it rains a lot and the ground is really flat. This soggy ground makes it hard for trees to grow, so instead there are lots of squishy plants covering the whole area.

These bogs are really important because they help to keep our planet healthy! They store carbon - which is like a big, invisible gas that comes from things like cars and factories - in the soil. This helps to slow down global warming.

Animals like frogs and insects love living in blanket bogs too, because they're nice and cool and wet. But you have to be careful when walking on them, because the ground can be very soft and you might sink in!
