ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bliss point (food)

Okay, imagine you really love ice cream. You like it sweet, creamy and with bits of chocolate in it. But what if the sweet part was too sweet or the chocolate bits were too big? You might not like it as much, right? That's where something called the "bliss point" comes in.

The "bliss point" is the perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, and all the other flavors that make you really enjoy a certain food. Food companies spend a lot of time figuring out what that perfect balance is so that you will keep coming back for more. They want to make sure you feel really happy when you eat their food so that you will want to buy it again and again.

So, companies use science to figure out what your taste buds like and they design their food to hit that sweet spot every time. It's like a magic recipe that makes you feel really good when you eat it. That's why some foods are very addictive and you can't stop eating them!
