ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Block storage

Block storage is like a big pile of building blocks that your computer can use to create things like files and folders.

Each block is like a little box that can hold a certain amount of information. When your computer wants to create something like a file or folder, it asks for a certain number of blocks to use. Then it puts information into those blocks to create the file or folder.

The cool thing about block storage is that your computer can use these blocks in any order it wants. So if you delete a file, your computer can re-use the blocks it was using to create something else without having to find a new place to store the information.

Think of it like taking apart a Lego house and reusing the same Lego pieces to make a different structure.
