ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bloodhound SSC

Okay kiddo, so you know how some people like to race cars really fast? Well, the Bloodhound SSC is a super-duper fast car that was made to try and break the world land speed record, which is how fast a car can go on land before it becomes too dangerous.

The Bloodhound SSC is a shiny silver car that kind of looks like a rocket ship on wheels. It's really long and narrow and has a very pointy nose. It's powered by two different engines: one is a jet engine (like the ones on airplanes) which helps it go really fast, and the other is a rocket engine (like the kind that go into space) which helps it go even faster!

Right now, the current land speed record is 763 mph (miles per hour), which is like driving from New York to Miami in just one hour! But the Bloodhound SSC is designed to go over 1,000 mph, which is even faster than a speeding bullet!

To make sure the car is safe to drive at such crazy speeds, the designers did a lot of testing and made sure it was very sturdy and could handle any bumps or shocks it might encounter. They also put a giant parachute on the back of the car, just in case they need to slow down quickly.

Once the Bloodhound SSC is all ready to go, a brave driver will climb into the cockpit (where they sit to drive), and drive the car as fast as they can across a really long, flat track in the desert. If everything goes according to plan, they will break the world record and become the fastest car ever!
