ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Blue straggler

Blue stragglers are stars that don't act their age. They hang out in star groups called clusters and they behave younger than their peers. It's like if you were hanging out with your five-year-old friends, but there was one kid who still acted like a baby.

These blue stragglers look bluer and hotter than they should be because the older stars in the cluster have started running out of fuel and are starting to die. But blue stragglers still look young and bright - like they're full of energy. It's like if you were playing a game with your friends and most of them were getting tired and slowing down, but one kid was still bouncing around with lots of energy.

Scientists still don’t know why these blue stragglers act this way, but they think it might be because they are really two stars that merged together. This is like two kids deciding to join forces and play together, making them stronger and more energetic than the other kids.
