ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Boeing hydrofoils

Okay kiddo, let me explain. You know how boats float on water, right? Well, sometimes boats are designed to go really fast, and that's where something called a "hydrofoil" comes in.

Think of a hydrofoil like a little airplane wing that's attached to the bottom of the boat. When the boat goes really fast, the hydrofoil lifts it up out of the water a little bit, so there's less drag and the boat can go even faster.

Now, sometimes big companies like Boeing make hydrofoils for really big boats called "hydroplane boats." These boats are super duper fast, and they're used for things like racing and breaking world records.

Boeing hydrofoils are special because they're made out of really strong and lightweight materials, like something called "carbon fiber." This makes them even faster and more efficient than other hydrofoils.

So basically, a Boeing hydrofoil is a special wing that helps big boats go super fast on the water. Cool, huh?
