ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bore (wind instruments)

When you blow across the top of a bottle and it makes a sound, you're experiencing a simple version of how wind instruments work. The bore of a wind instrument is the inside shape of the tube that helps create sound. When air travels down this tube and your lips vibrate against the mouthpiece or reed, it creates vibrations that make sound. Just like how different-sized bottles have different pitches of sound, the size and shape of the bore can affect the pitch and tone of the instrument. So, the bore is the special tube inside a wind instrument that helps make beautiful music!
