ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Borean languages

Borean languages are a group of languages that are believed to have been spoken a really, really long time ago by the people who lived in an area called Borea (which is now Europe).

You can think of Borean languages like different kinds of toys. Just like how toys are different shapes, sizes and colors, different Borean languages sound different, have different words and expressions, and are used by different groups of people.

But some people think that all of these different Borean languages actually came from one original language that all the people in Borea spoke a really, really, REALLY long time ago. It's like how all these toys you see now may have come from one original toy many years ago.

However, no one is really sure what this "original" Borean language sounded like or what its words and expressions meant because it's so old and no one wrote it down. It's like trying to remember what happened at your birthday party when you were really young - it's really hard to remember all the details!

So while we can study Borean languages today to learn more about how people spoke a long time ago, there's still a lot we don't know, just like how you don't remember everything from your birthday party when you were really young.
