Bourbon Reforms

Okay kiddo, a long time ago in Mexico, the people who were in charge, called the Spanish, came up with a bunch of rules to try and make things better. One of those rules was called the Bourbon reforms.

Basically, they wanted to make sure that everyone had the same opportunity to be successful no matter where they came from or who their families were. They wanted to make sure that the government had more control over the country so everything could run more smoothly. They put new people in charge of different areas to make sure the rules were being followed.

One of the most important reforms was about land ownership. Before, only certain people could own land, but now more people were allowed to own land and the government made sure it was fair. This was a big deal because it meant more people could grow crops and make money.

They also set up schools to educate people and hospitals to take care of sick people. They even made sure that people who were in jail were treated better.

Overall, the Bourbon reforms were a way to try and make Mexico a better place for everyone to live.
