ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Break bulk cargo

Break bulk cargo is when big things are made up of many smaller things that need to be individually loaded and unloaded from a ship. This is different from when a ship carries big things that can just be lifted on and off with cranes. Imagine you have a bunch of toys that you need to bring to another place. If the toys are all small and can be put in one big box, you can just lift the box onto your truck to take it to the other place. But if the toys are big and can't fit in one box, you need to take them out one by one and put them on the truck. This is what break bulk cargo is like! The big thing is like the truck, and the smaller things are like the toys. It takes more time and effort to load and unload break bulk cargo, but it's necessary when the items are too big to fit into one container.
