ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

British currency in the Middle East

So, you know how we use money to buy things like toys, candy, and clothes? Well, different countries have their own money, just like we speak different languages. In some countries, they use British money, which is called pounds.

Now, a long time ago, the British had a big empire that included a lot of countries in the Middle East. These countries used to be called colonies, and the people who lived there sometimes had to use British pounds as their money too.

Even though those countries are not part of the British empire anymore, some of them still use British pounds! That's because they got used to using them and it's easier for them to keep using the same money.

So if you travel to some places in the Middle East, like Bahrain or Oman, for example, you might see shops with prices in both British pounds and their own local money. It's pretty cool to see how different places use different money, right?
