ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Brooks's law

Brooks's Law is a rule that says if you add more people to a project that is already running behind schedule, it will actually take longer to finish the project. It's kind of like when you're playing with blocks and someone comes over and starts helping you, but instead of finishing sooner, you actually get more confused and the tower takes longer to build.

This happens because it takes time for new people to understand what's going on and get caught up with everyone else who has been working on the project. It's like when you start a new school and have to learn where everything is and how the class works before you can really start doing your school work.

Also, when more people work on a project, there's more communication and coordination that needs to happen. This can sometimes slow things down because everyone has to talk and understand what everyone else is doing, instead of just working independently.

So, if a project is already behind schedule, it may actually be better to stick with the people who are already working on it instead of adding more people. That way, everyone is already on the same page and can work together more easily to finish the project faster.
