So there's this place called Bryggen in Norway, which is a really old wharf area where people used to trade stuff like fish and wool hundreds of years ago. And on some of the old buildings there, there are these special writings called Bryggen inscriptions.
Now, these inscriptions are really important because they tell us a lot about what life was like a long time ago. They were written in a special code called runes, which is kind of like a secret language that only certain people at that time knew how to read and write.
The inscriptions tell us things like who owned the buildings and what they were used for, as well as little details about people's everyday lives. They even tell us about events that happened, like fires and wars.
So even though we probably wouldn't be able to read the inscriptions ourselves, they're really helpful for historians and archaeologists who want to learn more about the past. Plus, they're pretty cool to look at!
