Okay, so a long time ago, when there weren't supermarkets or farmers, some Native American tribes needed to get food by hunting. And one way they caught a lot of food was by doing something called a "buffalo jump".
A buffalo jump means that the tribe would find a cliff or a steep hill, and they would herd a bunch of buffalo (like big, hairy cows) towards it. The buffalo couldn’t see the steep drop, they would just keep running and fall off the edge.
It seems kind of mean, but the Native American tribes believed that the buffalo were important and it was a way to honor the animals' spirit. Plus, it helped feed a lot of people with just one hunt.
After the buffalo fell down, the tribe would collect the meat and use all parts of it for food, clothing, and tools. It was a really important part of their way of life.
So that’s what a buffalo jump is - it was a way for Native American tribes to hunt a lot of food at once by herding buffalo towards a cliff or steep hill, and then using every part of the buffalo they caught.
