ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Building insulation material

Alright kiddo, so do you remember when we played that game where we pretended to live in an igloo made out of snow? Well, sometimes people need to keep their houses or buildings warm too, but they don't use snow, they use something called insulation!

Insulation is like a really warm and cozy blanket that goes around the building to keep the heat inside. But instead of being made of yarn or cotton like our blankets at home, insulation is made out of all sorts of different materials like fiberglass, rock wool, or even recycled newspaper!

Now you might be wondering how it works, right? Well, insulation is like a wall that stops the warm air from escaping from the building. When the warm air stays inside, the building stays nice and warm, just like how we feel cozy under our blankets.

Some insulation materials are also good at keeping the building cool in the summertime by keeping the hot air out. So it's like a superhero blanket that helps the building stay comfy all year long!
