ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bulgarian Braille

Bulgarian Braille is a special way of writing things down for blind people. It uses a system of dots that are arranged in a particular way to represent the letters of the Bulgarian language. So, instead of reading things with their eyes like people who can see, blind people can feel the dots on the page with their fingers and understand what is written.

To understand this better, let's imagine a piece of paper that is divided into little boxes. There are six boxes in each row and three rows all together. Each box can either have a dot or be empty.

The first box on the first row represents the letter A, the second box on the first row represents the letter B, and so on. The arrangement of the dots in each box is different for each letter. For example, the letter A is represented by a single dot in the first box on the first row, while the letter B is represented by two dots in the first and second boxes on the first row.

Since there are only six boxes in each row, not all letters of the Bulgarian alphabet can be represented with just one letter. Some letters use multiple boxes to show their arrangement of dots. For example, the letter K is represented by two dots in the first box on the first row and a single dot in the second box on the first row.

By using this system of dots to represent letters, blind people can read and write in Bulgarian just like everyone else. It's a special way of keeping information accessible and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their ability to see.
