Cannibalism in literature

Cannibalism in literature means when people in stories eat other people. This is different from when animals in stories eat other animals because people are able to think and feel in ways that animals can't. So, when people eat other people, it can make readers very uncomfortable. It's not a nice thing to do and it's not a nice thing to read about.

But, sometimes authors use cannibalism in their stories to show how terrible a character is or how bad a situation is. For example, in the story of "Hansel and Gretel," the witch wants to eat the children. This shows how evil the witch is and how dangerous it is for the children to be near her.

Cannibalism has also been used in stories to show how desperate people can become when they're starving. In the book "Alive" by Piers Paul Read, a group of people on a plane crash in the mountains and are forced to eat the dead bodies of those who died in the crash in order to survive. This is a very extreme situation and shows how far people will go to stay alive.

Overall, cannibalism is a very serious topic and not a nice thing to think about or read about. But, sometimes authors use it in their stories to show how bad a character or situation is or to show how desperate people can be.
