ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Capitalist roader

Okay kiddo, let's start with what capitalism means. Imagine you have a lemonade stand and you buy your lemons and sugar from the store. You make your lemonade and sell it to people for more money than you paid for the ingredients. That's capitalism! You're making a profit by investing in something and selling it for more than you paid.

Now, a capitalist roader is a term used in China during the Cultural Revolution to describe someone who was believed to be too supportive of capitalism. Imagine you have a friend who also has a lemonade stand, but they charge more than you do and they make their lemonade in a fancier way. Some people might say they are a capitalist roader because they are trying to make more money and be fancier than everyone else.

In China during that time, the government wanted everyone to believe in communism, which means everyone works together and shares everything equally. So, anyone who was too supportive of capitalism and making money for themselves instead of sharing with everyone else was considered a capitalist roader. It was a way of saying they were going the wrong way and not following the rules.
