ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Capitalization in English

Capitalization in English means using big letters at the beginning of certain words. This helps readers know which words are important in a sentence.

We use capital letters to start sentences, like "I like pizza." We also use them for proper nouns, which are names of specific people, places, and things. For example, "My name is Emily" or "I live in New York City."

Capital letters are also used for the first word of titles, like books or movies, such as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" or "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back."

It is important to remember that not every word should be capitalized. Only the words that are important should be capitalized. So, we don't need to capitalize words like "and," "the," or "of" (unless they are the first word of a title).
