ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Caponier

A caponier is like a secret hideout for soldiers to use during a battle. It's kind of like a tiny castle with walls all around it and a roof on top. But the special thing about a caponier is that it has special holes in the walls called "loopholes" that are small enough for soldiers to shoot their guns out of, but big enough to give them a good view of what's going on outside.

So, imagine you're playing a game of hide-and-seek, and you really want to win. You might hide behind a tree or a bush so nobody can see you. But what if the other players start looking in your hiding spot? You'd have to move to a new hiding spot to stay safe, right?

Now imagine you're a soldier in a battle, and you're trying to stay safe from the enemy. You can't just run away and hide like you would in hide-and-seek. Instead, you need to find a special kind of hiding spot that will protect you from the bad guys and let you shoot at them too. That's where a caponier comes in handy!
